PCR results

EXPLANATION RESULTS PCR METHOD

The results of a PCR test are represented by:

  • "+" : the virus in question has been demonstrated.
  • "- " : the virus in question has not been detected.
  • "+/-" : the virus in question has been demonstrated but it is not clear whether there is external contamination or a (recent) infection. This result counts as negative in the percentage calculation.
  • INV : during testing, the material was found to be unsuitable for testing. This is usually due to aging of the plant material. These do not count in the percentage calculation. In case of too many subsamples with an INV result, no percentage is calculated.

Percent

A stated percentage is based on the number of subsamples (successfully) tested combined with the number of pieces per subsample. For example, 10×24 pieces or 10×12 pieces. If all subsamples were tested positive, a percentage with a '>' sign is listed. Thus, the percentage may be higher in these situations.
If you want to know a more exact percentage even with higher percentages, you can do so by testing the same amount of pieces spread over more subsamples. For example, 20×12 pieces or 20×6 pieces.

Cq values

Only for PlAMV and TVX are Cq values listed. The test results of other viruses are usually clearly virus-free or virus-sick. Therefore, no Cq values are shown here.

Limits Cq value PlAMV (results through December 15, 2020)
Cq 38-40; result "- "
Cq 33-37; result "+/-"
Cq 0-32; result "+"

Limits Cq value PlAMV (results as of December 16, 2020)
Cq 38-40; result "- "
Cq 34-37; result "+/-"
Cq 0-33; result "+"

Limits Cq value TVX
Cq 35-40; outcome "-"
Cq 0-34; outcome "+"

Interpretation results of a swipe/water sample
The results are represented by a Cq value. The lower the value, the more virus particles have been detected in the sample. A value of 40 indicates that no virus has been detected in the sample. A negative result of a virus test on a swipe/water sample does not guarantee the absence of virus.

Disclaimer

A negative result of a PCR test does not guarantee absence of virus in the batch.
