The quality of tulips is largely determined by the presence or absence of virus. To grow a batch of tulips sustainably, it is important to keep the starting material as virus-free as possible.
Selecting lots of tulips is a very important measure to remove virus diseased plants and/or other abnormalities. Both to reduce the percentage of plants present but more importantly to prevent the spread of virus. The earlier the plants are recognized, the more effective the result.
Selecting tulips is a profession. For this, knowledge of cultivars and aberrations is crucial. If you are growing a new cultivar, symptoms of viruses and abnormalities may still be unknown. BQ Support supports your company to build up knowledge of cultivars.
E-plant and collection
Do you have cultivars whose percentage of TBV is increasing as you select intensively? If so, have a sample of 200 bulbs planted up at BQ Support. The sample will be assessed for symptoms ahead of the growing season, of which imagery will be captured. The images are shared with you digitally. You thus have your own visual material of symptoms that have been verified through testing. This way you build your own collection with which the knowledge of selectors grows every year.
Of course, you can view your planting samples at our greenhouse during the grading period.
