Leaf sampling of lilies after flowering

Jun 27, 2025

For reliable results, the period after flowering is optimal for testing lily leaves. Before flowering, not all viruses have spread sufficiently throughout the plant and therefore cannot always be detected. That is why leaf sampling takes place after flowering.

How do you proceed?
For a percentage mixed sample (MM3%), pick the leaves at approximately ¾ of the stem according to the formula: 1 leaf from 25 plants to be picked at the base, spread over 10 different places throughout the batch. This amounts to a total of 250 leaves. Preferably pack the leaves in a micro-perforated plastic bag to minimize the risk of staining or drying out.

The leaf samples can be tested using the ELISA method for the following viruses: ArMV, CMV, LMoV/A, LSV, LVX, PlAMV, and TVX.
