The laboratory is very busy again. Most samples are lily scales being tested for various viruses. Besides PlAMV, we still see LMoV and regularly LSV passing by. "Fortunately, more and more customers are seeing the importance of annual testing to maintain a good understanding of the quality of the lots," says Erwin Buschgens.
Quality is very important and is largely determined by the absence of viruses. It is therefore important to know whether the scaly bulbs are (virtually) virus-free. "Healthy starting material is the basis," Buschgens says. "We see that entrepreneurs are increasingly aware of this. A positive development. Growers also want to enter the market with good trade and buyers expect reliability in batches delivered."
Entrepreneurs still know how to find their way to the lab. "PlAMV and LMoV are the most important viruses for them, but also other viruses you actually want to exclude at the start of a new batch of lilies. Sometimes we see a virus infection where the grower didn't expect it. In that case, in consultation with the grower, we try to find out what the cause may be so that problems can be prevented in another year. Without annual testing, you don't know where to look," Buschgens said.
Despite being busy, we almost always manage to deliver the results within five working days.
For samples submitted up to and including December 17, you will receive the results no later than December 24. For the samples we receive from you after December 17, there is a lead time of 5 working days starting January 2, 2025.
